Welcome to a fun and exciting science year at Pleasant Grove! We wish to cover some basics with you so we can get off to a great start and be well prepared for the year to come.
Supplies: Each student should come to class prepared and ready to learn. Each student should bring a binder, pencil, pen, colored pencils, ruler (with the metric system), paper and a basic calculator daily. We will begin using these supplies within the first full week of school.
Textbook/Online Resources: We will be using the 7th grade science text, Focus on Life Science. Throughout the text, there are “Go Online” boxes with codes to use at various websites so students can learn more about various topics. There are online animations, practice quizzes, and active arts. In addition, all of our students will have access to an online textbook with numerous applications.
To access these online resources, go to www.pearsonsuccessnet.com. The username is:7thgrade The password is: lifescience. These are case sensitive.
Behavior: Students are expected to respectful of themselves and others at all times. We will go over the classroom rules with the students. We will also follow the discipline guidelines found in the student handbook with regard to unacceptable behavior.
Science Packets: Every week students will turn in a science packet on Friday. This contains a cover sheet with a list of the week’s graded assignments and all of those assignments following in order. Individual assignment grades are not entered into the grade book, only packet grades are!
On Monday, we will return the graded packet and the students are to bring it home and have it signed by a parent/guardian. This signature is always the first assignment of the next week, and is worth 5 points.
All lost or stolen notebooks, tests, or work is the responsibility of the student and not the teacher.
Homework Policy: As part of the class, students will be using the school organizers/calendars to keep track of test dates, assignments, homework, etc.
If a student is absent, they must contact us to find out about make-up work. Extra copies of daily assignments and notes will be kept in the front of the room. If your child is out for more than three days, please call to request their work for pick up. Students are given the same amount of time as absent to make up work.
Late work, including projects and packets, will not be accepted.
Low scoring work may be redone with a 20% reduction. Every trimester there will be an extra credit/extension project offered to all students.
Grades: Remember, a teacher does not “give” the grades, they only record the grades the students have earned! The grades will be based on weekly packets, projects, quizzes, and participation. Progress reports grades will also be posted periodically in the classroom for the students.
Tutorial Times: If a student is absent and missed a lab or quiz, they will need to complete the make-up on Friday of that same week. Tutorials are held Fridays, during lunch in room A4. These tutorials are also open for any student who has questions and needs some extra help.
Parent Donations: The science departments at Pleasant Grove are going to be collecting a $10.00 donation per student. This is not a mandatory fee, but due to budget constraints, the department no longer has the funds needed to buy science disposables. In seventh grade, all collected donations will go towards the purchase of dissectibles and lab equipment.
Thank you for your support.
